Location: The successful applicant will have the option of working from our head office in Hamilton (Dundas), Ontario or working remotely from home (anywhere in Canada).
Contract Term: 8-12+ Months

About The Opportunity:
We are looking for a copywriter with relentless empathy for their readers.

You will be writing for humans first (as opposed to search engines). The content that you create will be well informed, with clear direction and a focus on utility. Your work will primarily consist of:

  • Research: This will include participating in training, collaborative research, and testing to find the right voice for a specific audience.
  • Website copywriting: Product descriptions, service pages, blog posts etc... Your mission here is to condense, simplify, and ensure that content is useful.
  • Email copywriting: Our touch points here are focused on predicting and addressing pain points.
  • Advertising copywriting: Headlines, descriptions, and calls to action. Our advertising is highly targeted and utility driven. Ads are focused on providing useful solutions to specific problems.
  • Editing printed materials: We publish a number of handbooks, reference guides, posters, and other assets.

Your goal is to be an effective communicator. The fewer words, the better. You will be expected to edit your copy until every unnecessary word is eliminated, and every obscure term is replaced to be more accessible. Your copy should be engaging and easily understood by the broadest possible audience.

Your time will be spent participating in product focused sprints. During these sprints (using the SCRUM methodology) your focus will be to learn about a topic inside and out, as well as identifying and understanding customer needs. This is a collaborative process with the marketing team and our subject matter experts. The goal of these sprints is to produce inspired, utility driven content.

Your co-workers: *
You will be working with the marketing team in a highly collaborative environment. Your project focused work may also have you working alongside the media design, subject matter experts, advisory services, and instructional design teams.

The qualifications and skills required to be successful in this position: *

  • A passion for written communication with strong attention to detail and editing skills
  • 3+ years experience as a dedicated copywriter
  • Journalism experience and relevant post-secondary experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of best practices and copywriting standards
  • Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to write in a range of styles for varied projects with different audiences
  • Experience with brainstorming, campaign development, and creative execution
  • A high degree of compassion and emotional intelligence
  • Exceptional attention to detail
